As I was walking back from college to the LRT station today, an amusing sight caught my eye. Instant Déjà Vu – a chicken was stumbling across the road in the conventional awkward chicken-stumble.
That brings us back to the age old joke: Why did the chicken cross the road?
Bird brains. And I don’t mean the chicken either. The chicken crossed the road simply because it wanted to cross the road. The thought processes of the fowl registered an impulse informing it of the necessity to cross the road, hence it crossed the road. It could have been frightened, it could have merely been taking a leisurely stroll (goodness knows what goes on in the minds of poultry) but whatever it’s – the chicken crossed the road because it wanted to.
If someone holding you at gun point insisted you cross the road, it doesn’t mean you were forced to cross the road. You crossed the road because you wanted to preserve your own life; therefore crossing the road was your own decision.
Beside, it’s a violation of privacy. Why on earth would anyone want to know why the chicken really crossed the road for? What happened to chicken-rights? Well, I presume they’ve yet to be invented, but it’s still very rude to interfere in a decent chicken’s affairs, especially when the poor capon didn’t do any harm and was merely crossing the road in what is deemed an appropriate fashion for law-abiding citizens… err… chickizens?!?
Stop condemning the unfortunate chicken. Live and let live. If it wishes to cross the road, permit it to do so as an act of goodwill. Only when that happens will we be one step closer to achieving the impossible mission of world peace.
