Happy 21st Birthday

It will soon be my birthday. As my 20th set of 12 months nears the end, what had been the excitement I usually feel as my birthday approaches a decade ago has turned into anxiety.

Are such marks of achievement at having experienced another year older, gained one wrinkle more, few inches in height (and hopefully more inches in width) worthy of celebration? Or should such call for triumphant wishes be reserved to years when one has accomplished goals and objectives? What is a birthday? It is the day I was born, yet its accuracy is very much questioned for how sure can we be that I am on that marked d
ay twenty-first of age?

Ironic how when I was 5, I looked forward to 08th of August. Surprising that at 15, I was proud to have aged a year older, a year closer to adulthood. My birthday has become another cycle of Earth spinning on its axis, just like the 365 other cycles it has completed prior to this 08th of August. Just like any other day, 6 million other people will be a year older. Just like any other day, 600000 babies are born. Just like any other day, people die and people live on. My accomplishments have been minute, the mark far from the bullseye. Time will just pass, as it has been passing, through failures and downfalls.
